I'm Okay

I fill my lungs with fire and smoke all for fun and to laugh at jokes because it's a way to feel, a way to say, "I'm just fine. I'm okay."
She loves me. She loves me not. She loves me, but I forgot a vinyl record left on side A. I'm just fine. I'm okay.
I'm so good at lying on the couch, watching TV, and passing out. I'm so good at trying to face the day. I'm so good. I'm okay.

A is another night well spent. B is for bathtubs and waking up in them. C: the cups lining the hall. D: the drive home on lonely roads. E is empty like my gas and my head. F: the feeling my muscles are dead. G: the girl I kissed and almost got laid. H is for "How come I can't remember her name?" Jessica, Kelly, Lindsay, or Molly? None of those sound right. Or maybe it was Ashley? P is for pretend if I see her again. Q is for quit--I want to but can't. Running on empty, I need some sleep. The sun's coming up. It sits behind the trees. Tell mom I'm sorry for not learning her lesson. Under breaths I curse volumes. Well, fuck I missed my exit. Youth comes fast, but it fades slow. Zoning out, I just want to be home.

Don't Worry

Don't worry about me.
Where do I begin?
I'm just glad I knew you then.
Don't worry about me.
I'm fine right here.

The last time I saw you was the middle of June, a Saturday morning on Sylvania Ave. Amazing Grace, I hate the song. My heart's shards of shattered glass all taped up.
Now you live inside a frame and on my brother's skin with your name. Strangers, with crosses on their necks, say that it's a better place, but they waste their breath.

New Years
03:40

|

Don't go outside. It is cold.
I'll kiss you under the mistletoe.
We can both make mistakes.
New Years is on its way.
We can dance to your favorite song,
and let our beating hearts be the bass drum.
We can both make mistakes.
New Years is on its way.
Who cares what they will say or think?
Let's have some fun. Let's have a drink.
We can both make mistakes.
New Years is on its way.
You can say no, grab your coat,
and walk home smelling like gin and smoke.
We can both make mistakes.
New Years is on its way.

Counting Clouds
05:34
|
|
||
We laid barefoot in the grass counting clouds that look like trees. You said, "There's a forest in the sky." One that I just couldn't see. You brushed a bug off of my neck and walked your fingers down my spine, counting each notch like a step like when you were a child. You laid your palm flat on my back, said my name, and bit my ear. Crawling closer to my side, you whispered, "I love you, dear."
But that was then, and this is now. We still talk now and then. Last time it was hard for me to say, "We can't be friends."
